Perhaps the most common thing that you hear from budding musicians is "I'll be signing a recording contract!" Weeks pass, they are still unsigned.

The frustration in the music business, like in most businesses, is the waiting game. And when things are up in the air, the waiting part is a killer…if there is something worth waiting for anyway.

Here are a couple reasons for the long wait from the A&R people:

1.They're overwhelmed from work. Guess you're not the only person in the place who dreams big.

2.They have many responsibilities other than listening to music. Established and budding stars, not to mention their family, compete for the same 24-hours that they have.

Like everyone, these people have tons and tons of things to do. They prioritize the more pressing and important ones first. It may be "the moon and the stars" to you, but it may be less priority to them. Remember, patience is a virtue. While waiting, polish up on your skills further.

They may be paid loads and loads of cash, but they have to burn their behind just to cash in on those handsome checks. Yes, like any of us, their work is proportional to their pay.

Their prime responsibility is to take care of the project details, from the artists and their back up as well as the studios. They have to make sure that everything is in sync, from the musicians, producers, the studio, the engineer, choices of song, the progress made, internal politics with the record label and many other things. Handsome pay? Go figure.

And that's for one project. The A&R people are assigned with multiple projects. And lastly, most A&R people actually spend 10% or less of their time listening to music.
